|The area of Rawai has lots of foreigners living here as it has a friendly community feel to it. It’s also much quieter than many of the nearby tourist destinations and despite it’s growing popularity and large amount of newly built luxury pool villas, it’s still an inexpensive place to set up home. Along Rawai Beach are fresh seafood restaurants that are popular with holidaymakers and locals, both Thai and expats.
Rawai has a few well-known restaurants and bars that sell tasty food and keep the regulars up late at night. Some venues offer live music on various nights, The Islander Bar and Restaurant and Friendship Beach are just a couple of the favorites where you can get live music, exotic drinks, and superb food. The Islander bar is run by a very friendly and welcoming host called Will is also a great location for all sports as he has 3 TV networks and 6 TV’s
Rawai Beach isn’t really a place to go to sun-bathe, for this you should head to nearby Nai Harn. It’s a popular place for picnicking and has a very laid back atmosphere. From the beach here you can hire a long-tail boat to take you fishing or for a trip out to one of the nearby local smaller islands. Coral island, Bon island and Racha island are just a few of the islands where the coral is colorful and the water clear for swimming, or do some fishing, snorkeling or scuba-diving in a secluded quiet spot.
A great way to explore your surroundings is to rent a boat and go wherever you feel like for the day. You could just hire a long-tail for the day or if you want something bigger then charter a yacht or speedboat and see where they take you.
Nearby is a small sea gypsy village where they make their living from selling seafood freshly caught that day to locals. If you don’t want to cook it yourself, then one of the restaurants at the market here will actually BBQ it for you and turn it into a delicious meal.
Rawai is ideal for access to other parts of the island as the main road runs all the way to town and the popular shopping districts. If you’re searching for a serene and tranquil retreat in Thailand then investing in a house or apartment where you are next to the ocean is the ideal setting.
Although both Nai Harn and Rawai are quiet, they have all the modern facilities and services you need. Local markets and 7/11, major banks, high class restaurants, stylish bars and massage and beauty salons can all be found here.
Rawai has some well-established Muay Thai gyms who offer fight training, fitness training, personal training and detox programs. They generally train all levels, from complete beginners to professional athletes. If you prefer to just watch Muay Thai then check out the real Thai boxing live matches by professional boxers at Suwit Gym and Patong.
Rawai is only 6 km from the main tourist attractions in Kata Beach and 12 km from Patong Beach and Phuket Town. Phuket town is a very small and quaint city with its Sino-Portuguese town houses and shop houses dating back over a century in some cases. The coastal road between Rawai and Kata weaves through hills and offers breathtaking ocean views and glimpses of beautiful secluded beaches. Don’t be surprised to pass an elephant or see a monkey sat at the side of the road whilst on your travels as Phuket is a natural habitat for these jungle animals and they can be seen most days when travelling that way.
